Veterinarian Clinic: ABCs of Military Life

For the last Tuesday in the A to Z Challenge we are at the letter V

V is for Veterinarian Clinic

We love the veterinarian clinics we have used on base. Not only do they tend to be a little bit less expensive, but they also have a lot of wonderful resources for military pets

At our last base we got to know the veterinarians quite well. At first we just had the normal check-up appointments with our cat. But when we added a puppy to the mix our veterinarian appointments became more frequent. And between appointments there were phone calls, oh so many phone calls.

Myka was such an adorable puppy. Which was probably because she was trouble. We had a lot of accidents while potty training, she loved shredding paper, and would gladly un-stuff every toy and dog bed we brought home for her. Then shortly after bringing her home my husband deployed. And then the real fun began.

Myka would eat anything she could get her paws on. And I mean anything. She ate 2 dozen cupcakes I made for a bake sale, including the multicolored paper wrappers. She ate a dozen chocolate chip cookies cooling on the counter that were meant for a care package for my husband. She ate cat food and fish food, but wouldn’t touch her dog food. This was all before being old enough to get fixed. Between the phone calls to the veterinarian to check the toxicity of what she was consuming, and dealing with an allergy towards two different dog foods, blood work to make sure she wasn’t allergic to something major, and wellness check ups to ensure she was growing okay despite her desire to consume anything but dog food, the veterinarian staff knew Myka and I by name.

The veterinarian staff was both helpful and understanding. Which was exactly what I needed while my husband was away.
