Plastic Bag Art

All you need is 3 supplies to create plastic bag art. The best part, no one is too young for this art project!

My little miss loves playing with different textures and her grandparents love receiving “hand made” art from their little princess. I however don’t love the clean up that is usually involved. Since my little one is at the age of putting everything in her mouth I wanted to find a way for her to make her own artwork to send to grandparents for special occasions without her eating all the paint. By placing the paint in a plastic bag it kept the paint out of little miss’s mouth, hair, clothing, as well as out of my hair, face, and clothing.

The 3 supplies that you need are, paint, a plastic bag with a sealing mechanism, and a piece of thick paper. I recommend using at least 2 different colors, but using one works okay too. Just don’t use too many colors or you will make a muddy color that lacks the bight cheerfulness.

To create the plastic bag art all you need to do is place your thick pice of paper into the plastic bag you are using. I used a simple sandwich bag that I found in my pantry. Add a few drops of paint, at random locations. Then seal up the plastic bag, super tight. Make sure the sealing mechanism is definitely locked, or your paint will go everywhere.

Now its finally time for the fun! Allow your little one (or big one) to squish and smash the paint into the paper. Once the paint drops have been moved around the paper and the artwork is complete remove the piece of paper from the plastic bag and allow it to dry. Make sure to remove the piece of paper right away so that the paint doesn’t stick to the plastic bag, you could end up tearing the paper when you get it out of the plastic bag if you wait too long!

I allowed the artwork to dry on a bakers rack, then once it was good and dry I placed it between two heavy books to flatten it out! Then placed the artwork inside a card and mailed to to little miss’s grandparents. The greatest part about creating art is there is no wrong way! Allowing your child to express their creative side is great way to enhance fine motor skills and allow them to explore their senses!
