Turn an old cork board into a something new and totally you!
Cork boards are a great way to stay organized, but it can be hard to find one that fits your style and space. I found a nice large cork board in our basement, but it was definitely outdated, so I decided to use a little fabric to give it a whole new look.
To make your own fabric cork board all you need is a cork board, fabric, an iron, and heavy duty stapler. Once you pick the fabric you want to use, iron out all of the creases.
If you want you can cut down the fabric leaving a few inches around the boarder of the cork board, I decided to wait and cut it down later. You want to start with attaching the fabric to the two longest sides. Start with the one side by stapling the fabric to the backside of the board. Make sure to put a staple every 2-3 inches. Then staple along the other long side, making sure to pull the fabric tight around the frame of the cork board while you staple. If you haven’t already, this is a good time to trim off any excess fabric.
Now when working on the shorter sides you want a nice clean corner. The best way to start is to pull where the fabric is folded down towards the exposed wooden frame. This will create two triangle shapes. Take the top triangle and pull it down onto the cork board and staple it into place. Repeat on the other side.
That leaves you with a trapezoid shape tail of fabric still not attached. Pull this tail of fabric up and staple to the cork board. Make sure to always be puling the fabric tight. This will leave you with a nice clean and tight corner.
I don’t personally like the push pin look, so I like to use sewing pins. Sewing pins come in a variety colors and have a more dainty look to them. Now I have a nice place to keep all my random notes and to do lists, as well as some of my daughters artwork!
I love these and I’m so glad I can make one myself now!
