With everything you can find at a craft store making adorable customized headbands are easy and quick. It took me less than five minutes to make this headband. I just love how a statement headband adds a beautiful pop of color to any outfit.
All you need for this project is a elastic lace, a pre-made fabric flower, a safety pin and a sewing machine (0r needle and thread).
You can find elastic lace at any craft store, sometimes its on a spool and sometimes you can purchase it by the yard. This lace I bought by the yard. To figure out how much of the elastic lace you will need for your headband, just measure around the head of the person that will be wearing the headband and subtract 1 inch!
The fabric flower that I picked had a built in tab to run the lace through. When working with a small tab it can be hard to pull the lace through the opening. To make it easier, bundle the edge of the lace and secure it with a safety pin. Then push the safety pin through the tab first, pulling the lace through behind the pin.
Once the lace in about halfway through, take the edges of the lace and sew them together. If you are using a sewing machine I recommend the zig-zag stitch, and running it through 3-4 times to make sure it is really secure. If you want the headband to appear to be seamless, simply pull the elastic lace through the fabric flower until the seam is behind the flower.
That is all it takes to make a customizable headband! I made this one for my daughter, to go with her many outfits that have pink in them! My daughter’s big personality needs big headbands, and they can get expensive, so making my own saves me money! The best part is when she outgrows this headband I can cut the lace, pull it out, and replace it with a larger piece of lace.
You have just the most adorable model! I wonder if I could make one of these for myself…
