Create the perfect crown out of plastic fall flowers for family pictures!
It is not quite time for fall family pictures, but the season is quickly approaching and I wanted to be ready for our first full fall as a family of three! Since little miss was born in October of last year we didn’t take too many fun fall pictures, we were more focused on newborn close-ups. This year will be different, this year I can’t wait to take pictures in the corn fields and pumpkin patches with our beautiful little girl!
I am a sucker for big beautiful headbands and bows, as you might have guessed if you are one of my followers on Pinterest! For the fall though I knew a headband or bow just wouldn’t be enough. I wanted our little girl to wear a crown of sunflowers fit for a princess. Since I knew she will most likely pull, tug and throw the crown of flowers that I plan on bribing her to wear, I thought it might be best to make the crown from fake fall flowers.
To make a beautiful crown of fall flowers you only need a few materials, all that can easily be found at the craft store and around the house! You need a styrofoam circular form, scrap fabric, a glue gun, fake flowers and leaves, and a good pair of scissors.
You want to start with covering your styrofoam form with scrap fabric. I used leftover fabric and tore it into short strips. Simply glue one end to the styrofoam, wrap the fabric around slightly overlapping the last layer and glue the other end down. Repeat until the entire form is covered.
Remove your flowers and leaves form the plastic stem and use a little hot glue to help secure the fall flowers and leaves to your fabric covered styrofoam. By cutting a small slice into the fabric where you plan on attaching the flower, you will be able to push the flower end into the styrofoam helping to make the flowers more secure. Randomly adding your fall flowers and leaves is where you can let your creativity run wild!
When you finished creating step back and admire your beautiful crown. In this case I am a true believer of bigger is better!
After I was finished I realized it might be a good idea to make sure the crown of fall flowers would stay on my little ones head. She spent most of the time trying to pull the flowers off, and crawling became quite difficult, but I still think she loved her crown. I can’t wait to see how our family photographs turn out this fall, with our little princess in her crown of fall flowers!
Awwwww! How sweet does that crown look? I love it!
This is so adorable!! I totally want one for myself! I can’t help but think it’d be so cute for the wedding 😉
